What types of animals does Sanatoga Animal Hospital treat?
Our veterinary team provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and preventive care for dogs and cats. From a new puppy or kitten’s first exam to attentive senior pet care, we support your companion through every stage of life.
Is Sanatoga Animal Hospital AAHA accredited?
Yes. We are an AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital, which means we voluntarily meet the American Animal Hospital Association’s rigorous standards for patient care, pain management, surgery, diagnostics, and medical record-keeping. Only a small percentage of veterinary practices in North America hold this designation.
How long has Sanatoga Animal Hospital been serving the community?
Our family-owned practice has cared for pets at 2814 East High Street since 1976. Learn more about our history and mission on our About Us page, or meet our doctor.
What veterinary services do you offer?
We offer pet vaccinations, in-house diagnostics, pet surgery including CO2 laser surgery, pet dentistry, hospitalization, boarding, microchip insertion, photobiomodulation therapy, and parasite prevention.
How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
Most adult dogs and cats benefit from a wellness exam at least once a year. Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with chronic conditions often need more frequent visits. We also recommend annual blood work for pets over six years old to catch health changes early.
Which vaccines does my pet need?
Vaccine recommendations depend on your pet’s age, health, and lifestyle. Dogs commonly receive DA2PP, rabies, Bordetella, Lyme, leptospirosis, and canine influenza vaccines, while cats receive rabies and FVRCP. Visit our pet immunization page for recommended schedules.
Do you recommend year-round flea, tick, and heartworm prevention?
Yes. Parasites are active in southeastern Pennsylvania for much of the year, and Lyme disease is common in our region. We recommend year-round flea, tick, heartworm, and intestinal parasite prevention along with annual heartworm and tick-borne disease testing. Read more on our parasite prevention page.
What foods are dangerous for my pet?
Common household foods such as grapes, raisins, chocolate, coffee, onions, garlic, xylitol, and salty snacks can be toxic to pets. Review our guide to foods your pet should avoid, and call us right away if you suspect your pet has eaten something harmful.
Why is pet dental care important?
Dental disease is the most common illness we see in pets and can lead to pain, infection, tooth loss, and problems affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys. We use digital dental X-rays and professional cleanings to protect your pet’s oral health. Learn more about pet dentistry and dental care at our hospital.
Should I microchip my pet?
We strongly recommend it. A microchip is a permanent form of identification that dramatically improves the chances of reuniting with a lost pet. The procedure is quick and similar to a routine vaccination. See our microchip insertion page for details.
